After a great Fall & December it is time for the store to shut down for winter, just until Spring!

We wish a happy and successful 2010 for everyone and look forward to seeing you in the spring.

Summer went by so quickly! Labour Day weekend is coming and that will be the changeover to our Fall Hours and it will also be one last day for cupcakes.

Unfortunately, the kids have to return to school and that includes Heather our Cupcake Specialist.

Labour Day Weekend, Saturday is our last day for cupcakes for the season, so put your order in if you need some! Our hours for the Labour Day Weekend will be:

Friday & Saturday 10 - 5:30,
Sunday 11 - 5
and we will be closed on the Monday.


After the holiday weekend our hours will return to:

Closed Mondays
Tuesday - Saturday 10 - 5
Sunday 11-4

We were fortunate to be introduced to some new sauces this summer and now we have received our first shipment.

"Just Wing It" Sauces are delicious and very versatile.

The Chipotle Maple sauce was delicious on my grilled chicken - gave it a nice bit of heat and savoury spice to the meat without overpowering the flavour. My family loved it!!

There is also a lovely smokey marinade that I predict will become the other popular new sauce in the pantry at my house. It is smokey flavour with a soya base and I think it will be lovely on some pork or chicken.

The staff sampled the sauces and we have been sampling them to the customers and so far the response has been "Yummy"

I love it when new products become an instant hit!

What a summer it has been! A couple of nice sunny days followed by overcast and the odd bit of rain. Our only positive is knowing that all of Ontario has been going through the same thing.

This has not stopped the creativity in the kitchen, I am happy to say!

The other night Heather and Louise decided to create some new barks to do a little experimenting and when I saw them the next morning I was thrilled!

S'more Bark and Tropical Paradise Bark are new and delicious! S'more bark is Belgian Milk Chocolate, with Mini Marshmallows and chunks of Graham Cracker.. Yum Yum! Tropical Paradise Bars are Belgian Milk chocolate, Coconut Flakes, Candied Pineapple and Large Pecans. Another Yummy treat to add to our collections.

The customers seem to be taking a liking to them as well, so I am thinking we may have to see what else we can come up with in the line of Barks!

Earlier this summer I had the pleasure of meeting a local island blogger at a little theatre presentation of "The Pirates of Penzance"

"C" wasn't in the play, just watching it with her husband and adorable little baby.

I have been checking out her blog lately and find it pretty interesting. It is neat to see someone else from the City has moved to the Island and has embraced our little piece of Heaven.

She stopped into the store this summer and picked up some chocolates for company that she was expecting and I see she is raving about our chocolates on her blog! I think it is a first for us and I was happy to see she liked our chocolates! Of course we love our chocolates and love it when the customers enjoy them just as much!

The day started overcast and drizzling but miraculously cleared as events started! The Pancake Breakfast was a popular start to the day and the silent auction had some great buys!

It was a pretty busy day around town and the weather was great once the clouds disappeared! The Cardboard boat races went off without a hitch, the parade was very entertaining! There was a ceremony & cutting into 3 cakes celebrating our towns 125th birthday!

The evening community potluck offered a great selection of food for locals and tourists...with the evening ending with music & entertainment on the dock, finishing with fireworks at dark.

I was so pleased to see the town bustling with so many people having fun and can't wait for next Summerfest!

There are so many things going on around town this weekend with summerfest on in Kagawong!

Stop into town to participate in the events and hope that we don't have the fireworks delayed due to rain!

Most of the events are rain or shine so come check out our little village for our best Summerfest ever! Start your day off with a pancake breakfast, check out the silent auction and various events during the day.

Saturday night we are having a community pot luck dinner at the pavillion so be sure to bring a dish and stop by, then stick around for some music and entertainment at the marina followed by fireworks at dark.

We are happy to carry RiverMist Manitoulin Ornaments again! The new one for 2009 is an inukshuk made of oak with the unique shape of Manitoulin Island. You have to see it to believe it!

Wes and Ethel Newburn have come up with some of the most unique designs for his oak Manitoulin Islands. They look spectacular on the family Christmas Tree or put them on a wall to enjoy them all year long.

We have some of his other designs as well, such as the tree and star which were his first designs and are always popular.

Tomorrow - July 1st is the first day of our local market.

I believe the hours are Wednesdays 12 - 4 and there is usually fresh baked goods, crafts, local vegetables, jams and jellies and spices. I always find something good there but unfortunately it only lasts for July and August!

Summer has arrived and we are now open 7 days a week!

Monday to Friday 10AM until 5:30PM and Sundays 11AM until 5PM

Saturday was a busy day in Kagawong with the opening of a new store!

The KuKu Hut opened up right across the street from the Chocolate Works. Amanda Flanagan has been spending the last few years traveling around Kenya and Africa working with schools and church's teaching the children there. Along the way she has picked up some really nice African crafts and has brought them back to Canada to open a store for the summer.

I purchased a beaded wooden bowl to use for sampling in the store. It will be perfect for sampling jelly beans and small chocolates.

A few customers showed me some of their purchases at the KuKu Hut and I saw some really nice things!

The new store is a welcome addition to the town!

The Temperature rose up to over 20 C finally! It was such a great sunny day the customers were thrilled to be able to walk along Bridal Veil Trail without a jacket on.

Check out the new logo for our Belgian Chocolate Cupcakes under Seasonal Favourites! Heather's friend designed it for her! Now they look very professional!

It is really the small things that make it a great day.

What chilly weather the local High School kids had for their annual release of rubber duckies down the local Kagawong River. They release the ducks at the bridge over the river and the first ones caught at the mouth of the river win a prize. I don't think you could pay me enough to stand in those freezing waters to catch the ducks but the teenagers sure do a great job.

It was nice to see the cottagers return to town and drop in to say hello! It now feels like summer is almost here!

The other thing that makes it feel like summer...the chip stand "The Riverside" opens on the weekends! We couldn't resist our fist taste of Poutine....mmmmmm. It is a treat to have and it's only available in the summer in Kagawong.
